Apple iPad is the king of the tablet PC segment, but it now has new competitor on the block. The Galaxy Tab is Samsung’s answer to the Apple iPad, which has ruled the roost in the segment ever since its launch.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab has such an array of features that it could give the Apple iPad a run for its money. The display of the Samsung Galaxy Tab is quite small when compared with the iPad at 7 inches. There is a belief that iPad is a bit large to being the ultimate table. Hence, the Galaxy Tab wins over when it comes to portability and ease of use due to its much smaller dimensions. The display albeit small is great to look at and offers a great viewing experience.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is provided with dual cameras, one on the front and the other at the back. The rear camera can be used for photography and it’s 3-megapixel while the front one can be used for video conferencing and is a 1.3-megapixel one. This is a major advantage when compared with the iPad as these are available on it. The tablet has a 1 GHZ processor and it runs on Android 2.2 OS. As a result, this device can support high-end applications and allow you to watch Full HD content. Samsung have given this tablet a powerful 4000 mAh battery which offers more than 5 hours of continuous movie playback.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab can be bought in either the 16GB or 32GB memory specs. MicroSD card slots provided facilitate the memory expansion to a whopping 32GB. After initially pricing the tablet at around £700, Samsung has been forced to lower its prices to keep up with the iPad and now it can be purchased for around £600. Nokia, the multinational mobile phone company, unveiled their three new handsets following their “everyone connect” teaser. These phones were made to bring the best tools for messaging and social networking to mobile phone users at an affordable price. The Nokia C3, unlike the other two, supports only a 2G network with frequency bands of GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900. This mobile device is set to be released during the second quarter of this year.

The handset comes in a rectangular shape with contoured corners (almost similar in appearance to BlackBerry). The phone’s casing is available in colors of slate gray, golden white and hot pink. The phone comes in dimensions of 115.5 x 58.1 x 13.6 mm. It’s lighter than other mobile phones since it only weighs 114 grams.

The screen of the phone is a 2.4” TFT screen with resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. It can display 256K colors. Below the screen are key buttons and full QWERTY keyboard.

The phone supports both GPRS and EDGE used for mobile internet and data transfer through cellular networks. The phone, however, does not support 3G UMTS, HSDPA and HSUPA. Users of this phone can still connect and browse through the internet through hot spots since this handset is WiFi capable.

This phone can connect and transfer data to other devices and gadgets through Bluetooth technology for wireless connections and microUSB for cabled ones.

Apart from the features mentioned above, this handset also comes with features standard in most mobile phones.

The phone comes with 2-megapixel camera which can be used to take both still images and videos. The camera has frame rate of 15 fps. Users of this phone can browse through different radio stations since it has Stereo FM Radio. The phone can also play different audio (MP3, WAV, WMA and eAAC+) and video (MP4, H.264 and H.263) files in different formats with a built in media player.

The phone has internal memory of only 55 MB. This can be further expanded since the handset has a card slot for microSD cards of up to 8 GB.

The handset, like any other phones, supports messaging services such as SMS, MMS, Email, Push Email and IM. The phone is designed to allow users to access their email accounts from providers such as Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Windows Live and Hotmail. Instant messaging is also available through Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi Chat. Users can also send audio messages through Nokia Xpress audio messaging.
