Samsung Wave 2 Making Waves in UK

With the announcement of the Wave 2 at the recent CommunicAsia conference, Samsung hopes to increase the market share of Bada-based phones coming with superb phone contracts. Loosely based on the original Wave, the Wave 2 is intended for a lower price bracket, and compromises on features to maintain affordability. Designed primarily for social networking to cater to the younger target demographic, the Wave 2 brings social networking and smartphone functionality to the group that is most involved. Wave 2 deals are expected to be available in Russia and South East Asia starting in August. the Wave 2 will be available in three different colours: Pearl White, Metallic Black, and Romantic Pink.

Using Samsung’s Social Hub, similar in purpose to HTC’s Friend Stream or Motorola’s Motoblur, users can view all of their social networking data at a glance. Social Hub collects data from your social networking profiles, contacts, and email accounts into a single location, simplifying updates and profile management as well as just making it easier to see what’s going on with friends. Integrated Twitter and Facebook bring status updates directly to your home screen, allowing you quickly check the latest updates instantly. Text messaging, multimedia messaging, instant messaging, RSS feed, and email support allow Social Hub to help keep track of your conversations as well. The Wave 2’s TouchWiz 3.0 UI makes it easier to send and view messages, with a soft-key QWERTY keyboard and autorotate functionality, as well as predictive text input.

Similar to the open nature of the Android Marketplace, the Wave 2 has access to a number of Bada–based applications on Samsung Apps store, which is integrated into the mobile device or can be accessed from a PC—syncing allows you to easily transfer apps from your PC to your phone without any additional software. Users can choose from a number of games, applications, health and lifestyle aids, and productivity tools to customise the functionality of their phone using the Bada platform, as well as make us of Java-based applications using the Wave 2’s built-in Java functionality.

    Thanks for the awesome article, so I’ve been a samsung user for roughly five years now, and I latterly upgraded from a samsung omnia i910 to the Samsung Wave and thus far I’m loving it! (I do miss some options of my omnia despite the fact that) I am from Halifax Nova Scotia in Canada, I used to be originaly going to wait it out for the galaxy s to arrive on the bell community however determined to buy the wave as a substitute and save myself $400.
